The WCN team supports partner National Societies globally, contributes to IFRC/ICRC networks, and strengthens WCN expertise within the Netherlands, leading projects focused on climate resilience, nature-based solutions, water security, and sustainable WASH systems. To support the growing portfolio and increased budget-holder responsibilities, NLRC seeks a WCN Project Coordinator to ensure the smooth operational management of WCN projects for which the WCN unit is budget holder and to coordinate the WCN product and service portfolio in line with the NLRC strategy. The role will enable technical specialists to focus on technical content while ensuring compliance, quality, accountability, and effective collaboration with Country Teams and partners. The role strengthens portfolio-level visibility, coherence, and collaboration across WCN products and services.

Where are you going to work?

This crosscutting role is embedded in the Water, Climate & Environment (WCE) team at the Netherlands Red Cross: we work to reduce the impact of water-related disasters and climate & environmental risks by supporting National Societies (NS) through locally led, data-driven water action. Our team collaborates closely with the other technical units at NLRC, global and local actors to design sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient water solutions—from emergency preparedness to long-term resilience building. You’ll report to the WCE Unit Lead within the International Department and work alongside a diverse group of 10 technical advisors (water engineers, behavioural change and public health experts, protection gender and inclusion specialists). Although the team is geographically decentralized across Europe and Africa, it remains a close-knit group, strongly connected by shared purpose, frequent collaboration, and mutual support. Our defining values are:Relentless in Quality, Fuelled by Local Wisdom, and Impact-Driven for Future Generations. “

What are your core tasks going to be?

In this role, you will help ensure that WCN projects are delivered with high quality, strong coordination, and full accountability across our international portfolio. You will:

  • Coordinate the operational, administrative, and financial management of WCN projects for which the WCN unit is budget holder, ensuring compliance with internal and donor requirements. Assist in budget development, monitor expenditure, and flag variances, spending delays, and possible reallocation need.
  • Coordinate the development of the WCN product and service portfolio in collaboration with the technical specialist and the unit lea, ensuring alignment with the NLRC international strategy and effective use by technical specialists and partners. Maintain an up-to-date overview of the WCN product and service portfolio, highlighting synergies and opportunities for integration.
  • Facilitate effective collaboration between WCE experts and  NLRC Country Teams, ensuring WCN activities are properly planned, budgeted, and implemented in line with established policies and ways of working.
  • Ensure documentation, contracts, and financial files are complete, timely, and properly archived in collaboration with the finance team and business support. Contribute to WCN knowledge products, case studies, and documentation of best practices.
  • Promote teamwork and information sharing within the WCN unit and towards the international department to support coherent project delivery, also contributing to creating an internal newsletter and material for the NLRC international website.
  • Coordinate reporting, monitoring, and quality assurance processes in close collaboration with the PMEAL,  Finance and Quality teams, including maintaining a monitoring mission calendar for key countries.
  • Monitor compliance with NLRC policies, donor regulations and risk management standards in collaboration with the NLRC Quality team. Maintain a clear overview of progress, bottlenecks, risks, and required mitigation measures across the WCN portfolio.
